Q: If Jesus is so hush hush, why do we celebrate his birth and resurrection? Seems hypocritical.
A: This question was submitted as part of a larger question about Jesus and Unity's relationship to him. We only gave a partial response [click here to watch] and did not address this element, so we thought it would make for a perfect first post, especially since it's Easter.
Let's first revisit a point we made during the talk. Unity may be far departed from more traditional or evangelical movements, but its roots are firmly grounded in the teachings of Jesus which would eventually be known as Christianity. Unity chooses to interpret these teachings, and the Bible, metaphysically. This means that every character, place, event, and story is a reflection of our own spiritual consciousness and evolution. It is invitation to know that while no longer need to feel uncomfortable with literalism, the Bible is still a valuable spiritual resource.
So back to the question at hand. Jesus' birth symbolizes the realization that our Divinity or Christ Nature is a real part of us and we choose to align our ego or personality with it. His death symbolizes the parts of us that must be released (or die) in order for transformation to take place. Resurrection is the lifting of our consciousness as we allow our Christ Nature to transform us and our lives.
