Rev. Edith Washington-Woods

Senior Minister

Rev. Edith Washington-Woods serves as Senior Minister at Unity of Gaithersburg. She is an
empowering, motivational and engaging speaker who loves teaching Unity Truth Principles. In
doing so, she uses and draws from a variety of Spiritual communities. Rev. Edith is passionate
about servicing others in heart-centered and inclusive ways. Her strength is in how she is able
to connect people with each other and then collaborate with them in making positive differences
in their lives. This allows her to assist communities unaccustomed to working together by
building bridges of communication, empathy and connection.

She is active in 12-step programs with over 28 years of recovery. She values being involved
and connecting in spaces such as Interfaith, 12-step, and LGBTQIA+ communities. She is the
mother of four adult sons, ten grandchildren and has been married to her wife Akosua since
2015. They are raising a grandson who has been involved in Unity’s youth ministry since he
was four years old. Rev. Edith welcomes and celebrates all families.

She prays and meditates daily to improve her conscious contact with her creator.

Rev. Edith was ordained (2009) by Unity Worldwide Ministries (UWM) and holds a Master of
Divinity degree from Unity Institute & Seminary. She is also a Licensed Unity Teacher
specializing in Adult Education. During her three years attending Seminary, she worked at
Silent Unity on the 24-hour prayer line praying with people from all over the world. Rev. Edith
was the first African American woman to become a licensed electrician in the state of
Minnesota.

She is currently serving on UWM’s Board of Trustees as Secretary. Rev. Edith is on UWM’s
Budget & Finance Team, working with multi-million-dollar budgets. Doing this ensures her
continued vision for prosperity consciousness by being aware of finances on all levels.
Previously, she served on UWM’s Convention Team, was chair of UWM’s Health &
Wholeness team (as a commitment to self-care for all), and served on the Unity Eastern Region
Board as Board President before moving to serve a Unity church in California.

Rev. Edith sometimes called Rev. E, is approachable, fun and enjoys a good belly laugh. She is
excited serving Unity of Gaithersburg, creating possibilities and looks forward to the heart
connections she makes with each of you.
